About Tools in a Tab

Free technical tools that solve one focused task without making you install an app or create an account.

Useful from the first visit

Tools in a Tab is an independent project built around a simple idea: open a tab, solve the problem and keep working. The current catalogue contains 20 published tools for data, development, networking and electronics.

Privacy by design

The tools process information in the browser whenever the web platform can reasonably do so. We use only Cloudflare Web Analytics' aggregate, cookie-free metrics. Google Analytics loads only if you expressly accept analytics cookies; we do not use advertising or user accounts. Content entered into a tool is not sent to a Tools in a Tab backend and is never included in those metrics.

How a tool is published

Every utility starts with a documented scope. Its logic is separated from the interface and checked with known examples, edge cases, keyboard navigation, mobile layouts and performance budgets. Overlapping ideas are consolidated instead of producing duplicate pages.

A deliberately focused catalogue

We do not aim to generate thousands of pages automatically. We prefer a catalogue that is easy to understand, with useful explanations and related tools that help complete real work.

How guides are documented

Each guide answers one primary question with a short explanation at the start, reproducible examples, and links to tools that let you verify the result. When a claim depends on a format or protocol, we link to its primary specification. Publication and review dates remain visible so you can judge how current the content is.
